3 Ways To Control Your Cholesterol Level
What we eat and how we live our lives is very important to make us know whether our lifestyle is healthy or not. We always hear people say, eat while you still can but actually that will make you eat everything without making sure that it is healthy. Eating too much, especially fat will destroy your liver and heart as it will increase your cholesterol level.
What is cholesterol?
Cholesterol is a fatty molecule that is waxy in nature. It is not inherently “bad.” It is required by the body to form cells, as well as to produce vitamins and other hormones. However, too much cholesterol might be harmful. Cholesterol is derived from two sources. Your liver produces all of the cholesterol you require. The remaining cholesterol in your body is derived from animal meals. Dieta, for example, may be found in meat, poultry, and dairy products. Making sure that your cholesterol level is just enough will reduce the risk of getting liver problems or heart attacks, especially for elderlies.
Here are few things that you can do to control your cholesterol:
1. Eat heart-healthy food
There are few foods that you can find from the grocery store that are actually good for your heart. First and most importantly, you must reduce your intake of saturated fats. Saturated fats, which are mostly found in red meat and full-fat dairy products, elevate total cholesterol. Reduce your intake of saturated fats to lower your low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol – the “bad” cholesterol. It is also recommended to eat fish as it is high in omega-3 fatty acid. LDL cholesterol is unaffected by omega-3 fatty acids. They do, however, offer other heart-healthy advantages, such as lowering blood pressure. Salmon, mackerel, herring, walnuts, and flaxseeds are all high in omega-3 fatty acids.
2. Regular exercise
Exercise is a win-win situation for heart health. It not only improves physical fitness and aids in the fight against obesity, but it also lowers dangerous LDL and raises healthy HDL. Few activities that you can do that will not make you feel exhausted as you can easily go for a brisk walk, leisure cycling or dancing. It is not necessary for you to go swimming or play football to make sure you are living a healthy lifestyle but 10k steps per day is enough. For people who are currently working from home, you can walk in the morning and evening. Even though it is not 10k steps, small progress is better than nothing at all.
3. Lose weight
Losing weight is not only for people who want to achieve perfect body shape and body weight but also to reduce the risk of getting heart issues. You don’t have to lose a lot of weight but 3 to 4 kg is enough especially if your body is not considered as obese. Take your time and don’t rush the process, lose weight slowly but surely. Sudden weight loss like 3kg in a week will increase the risk of you gaining it in a short period of time due to demotivation or binge eating which will make it more dangerous for your health.
